This course introduces students to the basic concepts of English phonology After reviewing basic phonetics this course discusses three areas of English phonology segmental phonology (phonological features phonemes allophones phonological rules) suprasegmental phonology (syllable stress) and morphophonology Throughout the course much emphasis will be placed on the application of the theoretical concepts to actual English examples
